Safflower Harvest is Underway

9/15/2026

We grow safflower as an oilseed crop. Safflower belongs to the same plant family as thistles, known scientifically as the Asteraceae family. From left, the harvester goes through the field and harvests the seedheads from the plant. Then the harvester unloads the seeds into the bankout wagon. The bankout wagon is hauled out of the field and the crop is put into a trailer and transported to a local grain company for processing. Ultimately the oil will be extracted from the seeds to create safflower oil for human consumption.
